Embracing a Healthy Family: Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q in Texas Serves Up the Best Bar-B-Q

Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q in Texas Serves Up the Best Bar-B-Q

The first time I visited Texas I was on a scout and find mission for a new residence. After a very long drive from Georgia to El Paso, I never realized how long of a drive it was from the furthest point east to as west as you could get until I embarked on the journey. Arriving in El Paso was mostly met with unease given the volume of traffic on the major interstate from east to west coupled with a sand storm hidden sun furthering the dreary appearance to the entire area. The late afternoon encompassed driving around some neighborhoods until waving the white flag of surrender for the evening. The path along 10 past Juarez in the near distance continued that uneasy feeling given the level of poverty that was obvious just over the border in what then was a very crime ridden drug lord infested part of Mexico. We settled in to a hotel that was next door to what would end up being my family's love affair with Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q

My first thought was it had to be bad because it was part of a gas station but I couldn't have been more wrong.  It has a great atmosphere from when you walk in with the instant greeting from the friendly staff to walking up to the front to place your order.  If you are military, don't forget to show your ID for a discount too.  My younger girls and I always enjoy the pulled pork barbeque sandwiches and with the sauces on the table, you decide if you want saucy or original and how much you want.  Rudy's Bar-B-Q is the best that I've ever ate across the many states I have traveled from the tenderness of the pork to not finding endless amounts of fat riddled among the sandwich.  My eldest and her husband prefer the brisket.

When my sister and her family visited, we first went to White Sands in New Mexico and on the way home, we had to stop there so they could experience it themselves.  My sister loved it so much that she bought sauce to take home and three year's later, she still reminiscences about how amazingly good it was.

We have moved away from El Paso but whenever we drive close enough to Tyler, Texas, it's our destination and several times since moving, we have contemplated making that now nine hour drive just for a very long rewarding Rudy's Bar-B-Q roadtrip.
