Embracing a Healthy Family: Planning Our Mixed Hunger's Games Birthday Party

Planning Our Mixed Hunger's Games Birthday Party

Birthdays have always been a big thing with me as I feel it's not only a special day for my girls, but it's also a day to reflect on how it's even possible. Every birthday I had, I would always think or thank my parents for having me. Since my dad passed away two years ago, I no longer can physically tell him but nonetheless, I'm so grateful for my parents for having me and of course, for God. Next month, April, is not only my middle child's birthday but my dad would have turned 83. April has always been a special month for me due to him so when I found out my middle one was due near his date, I was more than pleased. Unfortunately, it didn't happen but she did try and made it eight days before his. This year, she will turn 16 and I have no idea where that time went. Poof .. it's gone in a distant memory aided by the numerous photographs I am thankful I took. This year, she's wanting a Hunger's Game theme compliments of her oldest sibling that got her hooked. The beauty is, my youngest, who won't have a birthday until the end of June, wants the same theme so they have agreed to share the special day.

Sounds a bit daunting in one way as we used to really go all out for birthdays but over the last couple of years, we reigned it in a bit. This year, I think it will be a pretty amazing celebration mostly because she is turning 16! Now that they are older and into cooking and creating more crafts, they are an integral part of the planning endeavors. We all have our Pinterest accounts and are busy looking for the grand ideas!  Etsy is another go to when we want more ideas and thanks to some crafty artisans, we are on our way!

Our lists includes District 12 bags, custom bows and arrows, names in a container and decorated cupcakes, cakes and cookies.  Here is a shot of one of the past year cakes my eldest made:

Stay tuned for how it turned out and if you have any advice or ideas, please share!
