I See Me! Personalized Books Review & Giveaway 10/10

Reading is an important path towards early education.  I have a homeschooling curriculum that accentuates the old way of teaching which were reading, writing and arithmetic. The basis behind this curriculum is that all the other subjects would be learned through reading.  In my house, we have tons of books and although I don't read enough to my children, I do like to make sure they have plenty of options to encourage reading.  Reading seems to be more special when the book is about the child.  This was true with the I See Me! personalized book that I had the pleasure of reviewing for my youngest.  The title I chose is the Who Loves Me book.

The customer has the ability to personalize with the child's name, gender and birthday.  Then you have the choice to select up to six people who love your child and you can combine 'mom and dad' as one of the six holders.  Being able to provide a Given By, year and given date is another nice feature to retain as an heirloom to pass down.  The artwork is wonderful and reminded me of older classics.  The story line is really cute with each person you named loving the child with a cute little saying with each one.  Both my girls loved the book!  The quality is superior to others that I have seen and is put together well with no binding slippage.  I think the books are delightful and will be returning for future gifts.

Halloween is Around the Corner - Have You Selected Your Costumes?

Today, I finally purchased our Halloween costumes after my girls have been bugging me in fear they wouldn't get the ones we wanted.  We shopped in stores today and then I choose online for possible better deals, selections and coupons.  My youngest chose Merida and of course, I had to buy a better version than what I saw at Target.  My middle one wants to be a Pink Power Ranger, my oldest is going to be an Indian and I choose Ravenna from Snow White and the Huntsman.

For those out there that like this costume and/or the movie, this is a hard one to find.  There are two or three different versions but for me, I preferred this one.  There were other places that had it back ordered but I was too nervous to take a chance on being told at the last minute they couldn't fulfill it.  I also saw it priced fairly high at many other places.  I found this one on Ebay and the seller is fantastic with speed of responding to messages and although I've had limited interaction, you can get a feel for people.  I've not had too many bad experiences with Ebay and I'm lucky.  Some people steer clear but I can vouch that there are many great sellers and I'm pretty confident that I'll be happy with my purchase of this costume and the one for my oldest.  The Native Tribal Princess Adult Costume comes with neck trim, fringed arm cuffs and fringed boot tops along with the cute dress.

From my experiences with Halloween, you have to shop early if you want the best selection!  I'll provide an update to this post once I receive the costumes.  Happy Halloween hunting and don't forget to check out my links and see what's available on the Ebay shop I bought my costumes from.

Nominate a Women Who Shines #WomenWhoShine

In our lives we meet or possibly know people who influence our life in different ways.  These people may just inspire whereas others become both a formal mentor or an informal.  I've had a few mentors in different areas of my life starting in high school, in college and at my previous employer.  I found I gravitate towards the movers and the shakers and gender has had no boundaries.  In my latest project, I found or she found me a woman who is one of those informal mentors.  She has helped with my nine year old's non-profit, showed an enormous big heart to other causes and knows no boundaries in doing whatever it takes.  This person's name is Heather.  She not only works for a great organization for helping people with epilepsy but she also goes out of her way in volunteering time to many causes the support epilepsy. She's a leader in spreading information about epilepsy, resources for people who may not have the knowledge or money to seek help and she supports the causes that help children with epilepsy. 

Heather reaches out using her personal time and social media in raising awareness, helping to raise funds and reaches out to others in helping them. It's not just a job to Heather as she goes above and beyond in so many ways while still juggling being a mom. Heather leaves a glowing impression on everyone she touches. She's a busy mom of two young children and is definitely a woman who shines.  I know many woman worthy of such a title but she instantly popped in my mind given my long history with her and knowing how many lives she has touched.

Recognizing those that do great things is not hard to do.  They have already done the hard work so it's natural to want to reach out and give a boost to show someone that their efforts are appreciated.  I know that people who do great things don't normally seek out recognition which is why programs such as Yahoo's Women Who Shine is a wonderful way to show that woman who gives herself back to others that they are valued, appreciated and loved on a different level.  You can also participate in recognizing a woman who shines in your life by visiting Yahoo's Shine and nominating her now.  If you don't nominate someone, please click on this link and vote for Heather.
