I'm a definite believer in supporting missions and acts of good deeds. I've seen many times pictures of children born with cleft lip and palate and feel so sorry for those that can't be helped. I went to school with a boy who had one that was fixed but very visible and he was made fun of. Can you imagine what a child must go through that cannot have the surgery? It must be terrible.
Cleft lip and palates are the most common birth defects of the head and face for children worldwide. It's not just a visible discomfort but it also has accompanying health issues associated with it like difficulty breathing and eating, ear infections, hearing loss, speech and language delays and dental issues. It's also not a one time surgery and does require multiple and long term follow up care. It's not an easy road for these children.
