Embracing a Healthy Family

Ficklets and Adorable Baby Clothing for Easter & Every Day

As Easter approaches, I can't help but think what a wonderful day to dress up and embrace all that Easter stands for.  Whether you are going on an Easter egg hunt, a family function or church, getting dressed up is fun.  This post is focusing on two of my favorite mompreneurs:  Ficklets and Adorable Baby Clothing.

FICKLETS:

If you are looking for cute Easter bag stuffers, check out the great selection from FickletsThey are perfect for your little one's glasses and come in over 100 varieties.  If your children don't like wearing glasses, they might have a new way of thinking about them after they get to put these little adorable charm huggers on them.

Ficklets are becoming the greatest invention for kid's eyeglasses since they give them the ability to personalize without breaking the bank.  They are interchangeable and easy to wear, inexpensive to buy and will make your little one happy.  My niece loves her Ficklets.

Ficklet's inventor, Ros Guerrero, came up with this great idea as she tried to meet the needs of her beautiful daughter, Gem.  The word "ficklet" means to change a lot hence the wonderful creation of Ficklets was born.  You can read more here.  Ficklets is not only innovative in the idea and creation of Ficklets but Ros is the most compassionate, caring person I've met.  She provides wonderful customer service and is hands on.

Ficklets is becoming international hit too:

“I’ve quickly learned that eyeglass charms transcend style and cultural differences because I’m seeing orders pour in from customers around the world, including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Venezuela, Dubai, Ireland and Russia,” says Guerrero. “This means children of any nationality are able to feel more confident when wearing their eyeglasses. The future is wide open for Ficklets.”

Whether you want something different for Easter or have a little one that wears glasses, you should check out http://www.ficklets.com/ as there is something for both boys and girls.

How to Train Your Dragon Special Friday Screening

Paramount teamed up with TwitterMoms to tell all you moms about a special morning screening this Friday for How to Train Your Dragon.

From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon.” Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

DreamWorks Animation's “How to Train Your Dragon” was produced by Bonnie Arnold and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Rated PG.

Meaningful Beauty, CellCeuticals & ProActive: Do They Work?

I've used so many different products to prevent aging and there are a few I haven't tried yet.  I got a big boost the other day when I went to the grocery story my daughter works at with her and the cashier and bagger both asked her "is that your older sister?"  Talk about heaven!  It was as if Gerard Butler was before me with a box of Godiva chocolates in the near buff.  Okay ... it wasn't exactly that good but it's as good as it's going to get!

You name it, I've probably tried it.  There is on informercial that intrigues me and it's Cindy Crawford's Meaningfulbeauty.  The infomercial discusses her plight to find the right beauty regiment and how long she's been using the products created by the person behind Meaningfulbeauty.  It all seems logical as she does look AMAZING!

I'm curious if anyone has tried it and the results?
One of my past favorites was CellCeuticals but I have since moved on.  With CellCeuticals, as I was just reminded via a comment on my other blog, it doesn't help at all with acne.  The poster noted how her acne was horrible and quit using it.  The one thing I noted from my experiences with CellCeuticals and to date, any other beauty product, is my continued use of Proactiv

If you have acne, is there another product you prefer?

Everybody Loves Babies: Premiering Mother's Day Weekend

As part of my participation with BzzAgent, I'm spreading the word about a new movie coming out that is near and dear to parents and especially moms.  Everyone loves babies but what about watching the story of four babies at once?  When I watched the trailer, my computer became an instant magnet with all my kids running over to see it and of course, we didn't just watch it once!

Get ready for a visually stunning and joyful new film that simultaneously chronicles the lives of four of the world's newest inhabitants in Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Toyko.   The film will cover first breaths to first steps all at once.  This unique movie will premier in theaters Mother's Day weekend.
This really looks like a touching movie about life and also about cultural differences.  I watched in amazement at the stark differences in the lives of some of these babies as well as noticed how similar they are.  You'll see what I mean at the beginning of the trailer with the two little ones playing and what transpires!

ERGOBaby Carrier and Infant Insert Review

Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel Lining

ERGO baby carriers  provides products to make babywearing safe and comfortable.  Juggling a newborn or infant is difficult especially when you are alone running errands.  When you place a baby in a car seat, it's an extra bundle to cart around and it gives your back a workout not to mention your arms and legs.  An ERGO baby carriers allows hands free mobility while ensuring safety.

Karin Frost, creator of ERGO baby carriers, desired a way to keep her baby near her.  Her intention was to create a product that would promote and enhance a parent's ability to safely and comfortably keep their babies as close as possible to them.  After eight years of research and good sound mothering experience, ERGO baby carriers was born.

SAFETY:

ERGO baby carriers stands behind it's safety claim by their rigorous safety testing that has been conducted and certified by by the European testing agency TÃœV since 2008, and by the Juvenile Products Manufactures Association (JPMA), according to the American Standards for Testing Materials (ASTM), since 2008, and, most recently, has met all the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Information Act) standards mandated by Congress in 2008.

ENDORSEMENTS & FACTS:

To further back their product, they have links for endorsements, certifications, recognitions, research and safety.

PRODUCT OPTIONS:

The Original ERGO baby carriers come in a variety of colors to best suit your personal tastes.

Organic options are also available for those parents that prefer the green way to go.  Ranging from the baby carrier to the infant support cushion to backpacks and pouches.

ACCESSORIES:

ERGOBaby offers many accessories as well to help ranging from changing pads, sucking pads, weather covers and waist extensions, replacement straps and hood replacements.  They are your one stop shop for baby comfort carrying!

The Review:

The Organic Twill Cranberry baby carrier and the Organic Infant Insert in Blush Beige were reviewed.  The mill that makes the organic fabric was organically certified in 1996.  Owner and designer, Karen Frost, created the organic line to ensure an eco-friendly alternative was offered to her customers.  Organic cotton is grown without all the pesticides and other controls used to ward of pests and control the soil conditions. It's a safe alternative in ensuing the product against your baby's skin is safe.

The Organic Twill Baby Carrier Features:

  • 100% organic cotton twill with 100% organic cotton sataan lining and hood.
  • 100% cotton batting in body of carrier to soften edges against the delicate skin of newborns/infants.
  • One inch, high density foam in the shoulder straps helps to soften the weight.  Even tiny babies can hurt after carrying them for awhile.  The soft straps helped to offset the weight and I had no pain after wearing it for an hour.
  • Quarter inch high density neoprene  foam in waste belt.  As you can see in the picture, the waste belt is wide and allows for continuous full support.  This extra protection offered comfort and a greater sense of security of not feeling like th baby was going to fall out.
  • High quality buckles tested by SGS.  The buckles were thick and felt sturdy.  Due to the size, it would be impossible to hit something and accidentally release the straps.
  • The waist circumferences fits from 25" to 43" so it's versatile for many body sizes.
  • Fits from 5' to 6.5' body height with adjustable shoulder and chest straps.  This fit my daughter, pictures, who is 5'3 and her fiance who is 6'1.
  • The sleeping hood is a smart and wonderful feature that protects and shields the baby.  It adjusts in length to accommodate the little one's growing needs.
  • Reinforced stitching is used at all fabric intersections thus increasing your assurance from a safety perspective.
  • It's durable and has been strength tested up to 90 lbs.  We tried to put the almost three year old in to see how it felt but she wasn't a "baby" anymore she said.
  • It's machine washable which is EXCELLENT!  Baby spit ups are the worse and having fabric that can be easily washed is a must have.

The color is absolutely perfect for either gender to wear.  It's smart, it's fashionable and it's organic!  All of the features above makes it a must have for any new mom and dad especially if they plan on moving around a lot or just don't want to be far away from their little one. It also grows with the child and can be worn on the back as well.
The testing offered me extra assurance in the safety department and the reinforced stitching, interior rip stop reinforcements at critical intersections and large buckles provides the finishes touches of noting this as a "buy!"

ERGOBaby Organic Infant Insert:

The ERGOBaby Organic Infant Insert is for use with newborns up to 4-5 months of age and is placed in the ERGOBaby Carrier.  It is also 100% organic cotton fabric with 100% organic cotton filling and arrives prewashed and ready to go!  It is machine washable again adding to the convenience.

The design encourages healthy maturation of the spine by supporting the pelvis, hip joint and leg position rather than putting a baby in a compromising sitting position before the spine is ready. It also supports the safety of the baby's head and neck during the critical stage of development.

It's very soft and smooth and is a great addition to ensure safety and comfort for the little one's.  The adjustable feature is also beneficial in providing security and comfort.

I also would recommend this for the first few months until the baby has picked up weight.

Air-O-Swiss Advanced Air Treatment Systems Review & Giveaway 3/21 WINNER CLOSED

CONGRATULATIONS TO ...

bwneyes100 AT hotmail DOT com

An e-mail was just sent!

Thanks to all those that entered!

I've noticed by comments and visiting other blogger's sites, there are a lot of bloggers that have children with chronic medical conditions just as I do.  Having clean air is essential to those with allergies and asthma which my youngest has in the most severe form.  A little over a year ago, she almost died due to an unknown pulminary issue that resulted in the wonderful doctor down in Savannah saving her life and getting us connected to another wonderful doctor in Augusta.  Subsequently, I try everything I can do ensure she doesn't crash and one area I've been in a deficit on is the air in our house.  I clean and remove the dust as best I can and frequently wash bedding in the hottest water temperature possible but there is more I can do such as cleaner air.

I found Air-O-Swiss online and found that they are a brand that I was impressed with due to the level of expertise they have available on their site.  An entire page is devoted to the Benefits of Humidification
  • Reduces discomfort, tiredness, sickness
  • Reduces to suspectibility to colds - This one is very important to me because colds are inducers to her asthma attacks.  My six year old doesn't fair well when she has colds coupled with her epilepsy.
  • Reduces chapped lips, dry eyes and dry, itchy skin
  • Helps babies sleep and feel better - My oldest is expecting a baby so this will be very helpful for him/her.
  • Helps to recover quicker from a cold
  • Reduces damage to wooden objects
  • Reduces levels of dust
There are other benefits and to learn more, just go here.

There are also interesting facts relative to clean air such as:
  • The air in a busy street is 20 times cleaner than the air in your office
  • The number of asthma sufferers rise dramatically as air pollution rises
You can read many more interesting facts about air here.

AOS 7146 Travel Ultrasonic

Humidification System

Now you can take AIR-O-SWISS quality with you wherever you go and enjoy healthy air anywhere! The Travel Ultrasonic AOS 7146 is compact enough to fit into your travel bag. Just add your own water bottle, plug the unit in and enjoy clean, moist air in your room. With the AOS 7146 you can ensure room humidity is just the way you like it. Efficient ultrasonic technology uses high-frequency vibrations to generate a micro-fine cool mist, which is blown into the room where it immediately evaporates.

Stay healthy and be more productive at work. Set the Travel Ultrasonic on your desk or in your office and enjoy clean, moist air throughout the day.

Thanks to the transcontinental AC adapter and exchangeable plugs the Travel Ultrasonic can be used throughout North America and Europe. The adapter means you can use your personal unit on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Review:

The Travel Ultrasonic is perfect size for those that travel a lot or need it at the office.  It's extremely compact and portable, has a little carrying pouch and allows the use of any size water bottle to be inserted for use.  I found that I shouldn't fill the bottle all the way up as the air doesn't fill the bottle back up and it caused the bottle to collapse and not work.  I was amazed at how much was emitted given how small the Ultrasonic is but it's a little powerhouse.  When it's working, it lights up blue and when it runs out of water, it turns an amber glow.

I had my regular size humidifier set up next to the Travel Ultrasonic and watched  in comparison with little difference.  The normal size one required less refills but that was expected.  The same amount of mist was emitted from both devices.

It arrives with a brush to clean it, instructions, the pouch to carry it and two power adapters for use in any country.

I would recommend the Travel Ultrasonic if you travel a lot, require one in a small area for a few hours or don't need one frequently.

Mamavation Monday Sistahood (Week Two) Post for Week 9

After rereading the "how to" pledge to be a sista, I didn't completely answer the about me portion so this week will be both my successes and challenges and more about me.

I'm on week four of Nutrisystem and have found that I'm still hungry, if not hungrier, since being on it.  I'm seriously contemplating ending it and just eating sensibly.  I will make the decision today.  I did write my bike for almost two hours yesterday and the one challenge I need to focus on is picking up the speed to really hit my burn.  I tend to blog while I'm doing it and only stay at a 15 mph pace.  With working full time, telecommuting, and having two small kids with chronic medical conditions and are usually sick lately, it's been a challenge getting enough sleep.  It's widely known that those that do not get adequate sleep tend to be overweight.  I know first hand on that as even my middle child, almost seven, never slept through the night for the first four years which was when I was the heaviest.
Photobucket
My successes this past week include:
  • Joining Mamavation and making the Sistahood (crowds screaming)!
  • Riding my bike every day for minimally one hour.
  • Trying to watch calorie intake and nearly succeeding.
  • Eating a vegetable and fruit (at least one) every day.
My Challenges:
  • Sticking to my calorie intake.
  • Avoiding chocolate.
  • Getting enough sleep
I lost nothing this past week but I didn't gain either.

Quick Bio:

I'm a telecommuting mom who works full time.  I have five kids, three at home and two stepchildren in Texas.  Two of my children were diagnosed in 2008, within two weeks of one another, with Benign Rolandic Epilepsy and an unknown pulmonary condition that almost took her life.  Since then, the two year old has been labeled with asthma and allergies.  Both take daily medications and whenever get hit with colds, the two year old has to be monitored closely as it's usually a trip to the hospital.  Due to the six year old's epilepsy, we formed Angels4Epilepsy to give back to other children who are hospitalized with epilepsy.

I'm also an Army wife with a husband deploying to Kuwait at the very end of April or early May for a year.  He's had many deployments so we tend to lose track.  Since our marriage, this is his first year long deployment so this will be challenging especially for the younger ones.  I'm also a grandma-to-be as my almost 22 year old is pregnant with her first one.

I'm currently attempting to write a historical novel and am half way through.  I also blog on the side and review products and provide giveaways.

This Week's Goals:
  • Continue watching what I eat.
  • Kicking up my speed on my bike and/or add in EA Active
  • Lose two pounds
